Publisher or Related Application



General Description

Creating a flier or a promotional advertisement is a frequently-used feature of Publisher. This assignment will require you to create a flier for a recreation, sport, health, or leisure event of your choosing. This will be a hypothetical event so it can be any place, future time, cost, or length as you deem appropriate. The flier must contain enough information for someone, who has no prior knowledge of your event to be able to find and participate in the event.

IMPORTANT: If you do not have Publisher, or would rather use another program, there are some links below to free programs that you can use for this project. Make sure to be careful when signing up for free trials of software so that you do not get charged after the trial. DO NOT use Microsoft Word for this assignment - there has already been an assignment using this software and the focus of this assignment is on learning a different skillset.

Note: Unless you are already adept at using Adobe products, I do not recommend using InDesign, Photoshop, or Illustrator. There is a huge learning curve with these products and I am hoping to help you avoid potential frustration.

Instructions

The flyer should include the following:

Who is your company or organization?

  • What product/event/program/cause are you promoting at this event
  • Why should someone consider going?
  • When should the person sign up?
  • How should they contact you?
  • What does the person get by participating?
  • Where is the event taking place?
  • What is the cost?
  • Are there any requirements to attend? Who should attend? For example, certain age, knowledge, skills etc.?
  • Where should a person sign up?
  • When is the registration deadline?
  • Are there any accommodations provided, such as special diets, accessibility for people with disabilities, or child care?"
  • When is the event taking place?
  • Include at least one image and an additional graphic element like a border, shape, or background.

    • IMPORTANT: The biggest reason students do not earn full credit on this assignment is leaving out one of the items above. I look at the flyer and if I can't figure out when and where to attend the event then I will deduct points. Remember the who, what, when, where, how, and why.

    Output

    The Publisher (or similar program file) file submitted on Sakai.
